March 2011
|
Welcome to the latest edition of The SomeTimes Newsletter!
Here it is - March - and, of
course, this is our first issue after the Tucson Show. Ultra
Tec was again at the TGMS, in the Convention Center. The
show was a little busier than last year - an indication of
the gradually, gradually, recovering economy. Enough to keep
us very busy at Ultra Tec.

FANTASY CUTTING.... YES YOU CAN!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 |
|
Charles Flynn Fantasy Stone |
Last year, we were just introducing the Fantasy Machine
- and this year we were pleased to be showing some
results. Among the fantasy stones displayed, the "crowd
favorite" was this one in the photo, cut by Charles Flynn.
The
Ultra Tec "flyer" about the Fantasy Machine said "YES YOU
CAN !!" - and Charles' stones showed - yes, you can.
ULTRA TEC PRODUCT DEMONSTRATIONS AT TUCSON...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Clint Webb demonstrated the
Fantasy Machine and Jack Freeman demonstrated
classic faceting. They were at Elayne Luer's About Lapidary
location, which became a center for equipment
demonstrations - as well as for lectures by expert faceters
associated with the USFG.

MEETING PEOPLE AT TUCSON...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Of course the show is about the
gemstones - and equipment - but more than anything, it's about
meeting - and re-meeting - people. The faceting "Stars" were
all there, and, yes, it's nice to see them -- but here, I just
want say a few special "howdy's - it was nice to have seen you",
to these faceting folks...
John Cesar |
John Cesar organizes our
section of the TGMS. He handles the complicated job, making it
run smoothly and efficiently. Thank you John!
We love talking to Dave
Dyer -- he's"an old machine-shop guy" and we like talking
Joe Rubin with Dr. Ralph Stewart |
Two "old codgers" now - Joe with
Dr. Ralph Stewart - Ultra Tec Faceter from Arizona.
 |
|
Frank & Shirley Beaven |
Frank and Shirley Beaven
were folks I hadn't seen for 15 years...from a time that I went
to the Midwest Seminar - yes, two Ultra Tec faceters.
Do I have 100 pictures? I'll bet
I do, but I can't show them all here - if you are overlooked
here - hey! you're in the
FACEBOOK Album!
Faceting Lessons in Connecticut -- Allen Peterson
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We frequently get questions
about faceting lessons - and here's a location that
we haven't reported before - in Connecticut, East Granby, to
be exact, at the Petersen Farm. Allen Peterson is a
long-time Ultra Tec representative, with 30 years of gem
cutting experience. He offers one-on-one instructions.
Interested? Talk to him about it.
What else? When you go
onto his website, www.acpgems.com
you will see that he offers gem rough -
it is shipped with a
10-day inspection allowance. It is listed on
his web page.
What else? Well,
hardly "usual" but in addition to his gems and gem rough and
equipment, Allen operates his company,
AdEmbroidery - they can design and embroider about
anything - but here's something that struck our fancy.
Is it the "latest"? Well, it shows the DAD
It's still "new" - We saw just
one at Tucson!

In
Western Australia, in Banbury, near Perth,
Ultra Tec's new representative is Brian Cahill. Brian,
