The
V5 is an upgraded unit based on the proven architecture of the
Ultra Tec design.
After
evaluating the V5 during its testing phase, under "real
world" conditions, professional faceter John
Dyer's report
was"FANTASTIC!!!" (the

The
main upgrades...
Firm,
virtual "no flex"
performance, and double-fast adjusting
For
years, the ULTRA TEC faceting machine's designation has
been "V2". Over time, there were many upgrades,
all in accordance with our rule that any upgrade could be
retrofitted to any prior ULTRA TEC. That rule assures the
customer of non-obsolescence. The V5 upgrades keep to that
promise - but, reflecting the significance of the V5
upgrade, the faceting machine deserves a new designation,
so, "V5".
The
motivation for the V5? It
grew from conversations and emails with faceters - several
of them engineers and several faceting professionals, people
who were happy with their V2 machines, but wished for some
feature of improvement . It amounted to a "wish
list". We listened.

ULTRA TEC continues to offer V2's, in both analog and
digital versions, both proven excellent machines. The
new V5 is a machine that will draw attention from people who
want extra speed, the no-flex performance, and the extra bit
of immediate precision that the improved stability offers.

A
FEW THINGS TO THINK ABOUT REGARDING UPGRADES... FAQ
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q: Should
I get the V5 Upgrade for my V2 Mast? Does it make
sense?
A: It
does if the front end of your Mast (see image below) is in good
condition - and for most owners we know it is. The
V5 Upgrade involves
sending your Mast to the factory - trading in the old
"back-end of the Mast" to be replaced with the V5
configuration (V5 components involved: Base, Post, brass
Dovetail, double lead Leadscrew, Bifurcated Riser Block with two
threaded bushings, Upper Bearing Support, Vertical Knob,
Leadscrew Bearings, and Yoke Bearings if needed).
The
V2 -to-V5 Mast Upgrade
Price - $1,260.
Also
remember: after the Upgrade is installed the Mast
is calibrated. If you have need a calibration anyhow, the cost
of that is avoided - it is free with this Upgrade. If your
Mast is Blue anodized, understand that the V5 components will be
anodized black - so an upgrade will produce a 2-color Mast.
Q: Would
I be better getting a New Mast?
A: If
your current Mast is not in
great shape (but, of course, if your Base is OK). - or, if
you just want to have the various "front-end"
upgrades, you could get a new Mast. What are some of those
upgrades - keyed Spindle, back-of-IG Block Dust Cap, machined
Rocker, machined Angle Stop, fine-thread angle-adjustment,
integrated design of Cheater Brackets...you can ask about those
in detail, if you'd like.
If
you do want a new Mast - and you have already installed a DAD -
we will (at your instruction) install your DAD on the new Mast,
and reduce its price by $500 (see below)...

NEW
DRIP TANK
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With
all of this attention given to the V5 Mast those eagle-eyes
among you probably noticed that the V5 picture shows a new Drip
Tank. The new Drip Tank has some nice features - machined
construction, clear visibility of water level, positive
machined-surface shut-off, stainless steel control rod
(top-of-tank control), thumb-screw main position lock, stainless
steel segmented hose allows direction of the coolant right to
the lap surface - no atomization.
The
Drip Tank is part of the V5 and V2 machines, and can be ordered
as a spare part.
